Ken Wells grew up on a farm on the banks of Bayou Black, a Cajun enclave in southeast Louisiana. One of six sons, Wells launched his writing career as a nineteen-year-old part-time reporter covering car wrecks and gator sightings for his weekly hometown paper, the Houma Courier, while still finding time to help out in his family's snake-collecting business. A twenty-two-year veteran of The Wall Street Journal, Wells worked in the paper's San Francisco and London bureaus before moving in 1993 to New York, where he has spent most of his time as a writer and editor for Page One.
