Recycled Materials in European Highway Environments Uses, Technologies, and Policies

The report of a U.S. tour to review & document innovative policies, programs, & techniques that promote the use of recycled materials in the highway environ. The delegation met with more than 100 rep. from transport. & environ. ministries, research org., & industries in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, & France. These countries all had recycling policies promoting sustainability as well as a pervasive public culture about recycling. The U.S. delegation made a number of recommendations to encourage increased awareness of the benefits of using recycling materials in road construction.
