She was previously an editor and writer on USA Today's editorial page, national correspondent for Knight-Ridder newspapers, and a bureau chief and state editor for UPI. Dan Rather has been anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News since 1981. In 1962, he joined CBS, and on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, was one of the first journalists to confirm the death of President Kennedy. He has served as a CBS News bureau chief in London and Saigon and as a correspondent for 60 Minutes, 60 Minutes II, and 48 Hours.
