Persistent Inequality focuses on the education of undocumented Latina/o children. Based on a long tradition of scholarship in Latina/o education and on newer critical race theory ideas, this book provides a critical analysis of how immigration laws and policies actively relegate undocumented Latino children to secondary citizen status. Despite the free public education promised to them by Plyler v. Doe, undocumented children have not seen improvements in their academic achievement. These children are thus especially vulnerable to various threats, such as threats of deportation.
