Wayne Bernhardson first traveled to Buenos Aires in 1981 during a military dictatorship. He has stuck with the Argentine capital through good times and bad, returning repeatedly to broaden and deepen his knowledge of and appreciation for both the city and the country in general. He has been successful enough that portenos constantly stop him in the street to ask directions. Wayne owns an apartment near the botanical gardens in Palermo. Having authored best-selling guides to Chile, Argentina, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, and Baja California, Wayne earned a Ph.D. in geography at the University of California, Berkeley before forsaking academia for a life on the road that many university faculty envy. This is his third Moon Handbook, following Moon Handbooks Guatemala (2001) and Moon Handbooks Chile (2002). Wayne has also written for magazines and newspapers including Trips, the San Francisco Chronicle, the American Geographical Society's Focus, Travel Holiday, and National Geographic Traveler, and he often gives slide lectures on destinations he covers in his books. When not in Buenos Aires, he resides in Oakland, California with his wife Maria Laura Massolo, their daughter Clio Bernhardson-Massolo, their Alaskan malamute Gardel, named for the famous Argentine tango singer (Gardel barks better every day!), and their recently adopted Japanese Akita Sandro (named for a contemporary Argentine pop singer). Wayne can be reached directly by email at southerncone@mac.com or through www.guidebookwriters.com.Bernhardson, Wayne is the author of 'Moon Handbooks Buenos Aires' with ISBN 9781566915106 and ISBN 1566915104.
