AUTHOR

National Collegiate Athletic Association

SUMMARY

John Wooden coached UCLA to unprecedented heights that no future organization in any sport is likely to approach. Under the masterful guidance of Wooden, the Bruins set all-time records with four perfect 30-0 seasons, 88 consecutive victories, 38 straight NCAA Tournament victories, 20 PAC-10 championships, and 10 national championships, including 7 in a row. He was a fabulous player before becoming the most successful coach in college basketball history. He enjoyed an All-State career at Martinsville High School, and at Purdue University he was called the "Indiana Rubber Man" for his legendary dives on the court. He is one of only two people enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach. Pete Newell was the first college coach to win the NIT championship (San Francisco, 1949), the NCAA championship (California, 1950), and an Olympic gold medal (1960). Considered America's "Basketball Guru," the Hall of Fame coach has served as an NBA scout, general manager, and director of player development, and his celebrated Big Man camps have been the preeminent training ground for NBA post players for years.National Collegiate Athletic Association is the author of 'March Madness: Cinderellas, Superstars, and Chapions from the Final Four', published 2004 under ISBN 9781572436657 and ISBN 1572436654.
