During the Gulf War air campaign (GWC) in Jan. & Feb. 1991, the U.S. Air Force (AF) & other Coalition airmen (CA) did not direct most of their effort against either Baghdad or even very much of Iraq. They focused on a small region in southern Iraq & Kuwait, known as the Kuwaiti theater of operations. It was here that Hussein deployed his most valuable units, the Republican Guard; & here that his infantry held the strongly fortified Saddam LineÓ along the Saudi border. And it was here that the CA flew more than 2/3 of the missions of the GWC. The AF & CA encountered problems in planning their operations & challenges in executing them. They overcame these obstacles, & attacked what the pilots themselves called lucrative targetsÓ. B&W photos & maps.Jamieson, Perry D. is the author of 'Lucrative Targets : The U. S. Air Force in the Kuwaiti Theater of Operations', published 2003 under ISBN 9780756737900 and ISBN 0756737907.
