Forty years after Lithuanian immigrant George Maciunas began organizing concerts and penning publications in New York, Looking for Mr. Fluxus both documents the recent exhibition at Art in General and stands as an ongoing Fluxus project and artists' book in its own right. The book features new submissions by the participating artists, an essay by the curators, and an interview with George Maciunas, mediated by a psychic in 2002. Looking for Mr. Fluxus is comprised of two related projects. The first, a group exhibition curated by Grady Turner and Raimundas Malasauskas entitled "In the Footsteps of George Maciunas, " brings together artists from New York and Central and Eastern Europe to explore the legacy of Fluxus and its transcontinental influence on the contemporary work of emerging artists. The second, a curatorial performance by Icelandic artist Skuta, is entitled "Fluxus Genetics." Documented here is the artist's installation work "Living Room, " which locates specimens of the cultural "DNA"that spawned the Fluxus movement in popular culture of the 1950s and 1960s. Also documented is "Laboratorium, " Skuta's performance in the role of a laboratory technician analyzing "genetic strains" of the Fluxus movement in the work of contemporary New York artists.Turner, Grady T. is the author of 'Looking for Mr. Fluxus In the Footsteps of George Maciunas' with ISBN 9781883967147 and ISBN 1883967147.
