Looking Back: Memories in the Life of a Surgeon: An Autobiography

Looking back, I can recall many memories from my careers. Early training led to the experience necessary to follow two careers, aviation and medicine. Being a Navy pilot was a good background to prepare me for the practice of surgery. Both require precision and accuracy. The passage of time has dramatically changed the practice of medicine and surgery. I was privileged to see some of the changes from the eyes of a surgeon practicing in a small town. Fifty years ago a doctor had to depend on his training and expertise to diagnose and treat illnesses. Today’s physicians also have the benefit of excellent technological advances to improve patient care. This book includes descriptions of some of these advances. It presents interesting experiences in the operating room and emergency room, as well as the trials and tribulations of starting my surgical practice.
