Kenny Salwey (birth date July 12, 1943, US citizen) is known as the Woodsman of the Mississippi Backwaters -- he's a hunter, trapper, outdoor guide, and self-sufficient woodsman -- he cut his milk teeth on a canoe paddle and seasoned it with Mississippi mud. He's a Mississippi river guide for hunting, fishing and nature watching; a storyteller; a teacher workshop instructor on environmental education and a keynote speaker. Kenny was born at home in the forested Mississippi River hill country of West Central Wisconsin. At the age of six his father taught him how to trap pocket gophers, shoot a .22 caliber rifle and catch a fish. His grandmother Mary taught him how to listen to and tell stories. He enlisted in the Army after high school and then came back to Buffalo County, Wis. to live in the Mississippi River's backwaters and adjacent hill country as a guide, trapper, fisherman, hunter, root and herb collector and general all-around woodsman. In the summer of 1986 a local Game Warden asked him to stand in for him doing a nature talk for a teacher workshop on the River at Wabasha, MN. Since that time he's dedicated the remainder of his life to the overall well being of our two most precious parts of the Great Circle -- our natural resources and our children. His hobbies are the outdoor skills he used to survive, plus reading, writing and once in a while a game of "Cow Pasture Pool." It's there that he walks the Circle of Life with his beloved wife, Mary Kay, and their two dogs, Webster and Spider.Salwey, Kenny is the author of 'Kenny Salwey's Tales of a River Rat Adventures Along The Wild Mississippi' with ISBN 9780896586499 and ISBN 0896586499.
