High end Department Stores, Their Access to and Use of Diverse Labor Markets: Technical Report

Our nation's retailers employ nearly 15% of all private sector employees. This study determines how people of color fare in dep't. stores, the largest employer of all retail sub-sectors except for food & bev. stores. Moreover, women make up a large portion (75%) of the retail salesperson in these stores. This report addresses 2 questions: Do high end dep't. stores (HEDS) focus so much on locations in affluent neighborhoods that they limit access that non-white workers might have to employ. there? Second, regardless of accessibility to diverse work forces, do HEDS maintain a diverse work force?
