In light of increased competition from international car co., the importance of automobile-related jobs to the U.S. economy, & other policy concerns, in 1993 Pres. Clinton announced a partnership between the Fed. government & 3 domestic auto manufacturers -- Ford, GM, & Chrysler, called the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV).
