Before he made his famous movies, Orson Welles went to art school, & he continued to draw & paint throughout his life. Published here for the first time is some of his most charming work -- a gift for Rebecca, his daughter -- which remained in the family's hands until a recent auction made it available for pub. In 1956, 15 years after he made Citizen Kane, Welles was near 40. During a stay in St.-Tropez, he returned to his paintbox. Working with watercolor, crayon, ink & gouache, sketching & painting, Welles created an illustrated retelling of the Bravade, the festival held every year on St.-Tropez's saint's day. Welles called his little book Les Bravades & gave it to Rebecca for Christmas.Welles, Orson is the author of 'Bravades : A Gift for His Daughter', published 2002 under ISBN 9780756756598 and ISBN 0756756596.
