James Berry was born in Jamaica and grew up in a tiny village on the coast. In 1948, he moved to Great Britain. He now mentors young black writers and has a worldwide reputation as a children's poet. He has written many books for adults and children Katherine Lucas studied illustration at the University of Brighton. She recently won the Macmillan Prize for Illustration. She lives with her husband in Essex, England.
